fremdwort

neologist

Fremdwort [fremt'voart]: n, (German) foreign, or strange word used to impress peers, adversaries, or potential mates

Had a great laugh with this website this morning, if you can pronounce them how can you go with words like entschlossene Herzenswunscherfüllungsarbeit (determined heart’s desire granting work), and Stolzbefleckte Schadenreue (pride-bespeckled damage remorse).

18 out of 20 isn’t too bad… The two I chose incorrectly were both in all caps, the Mattel logo and the Toyota logo, so I’ll have work on those capital letters, throw in an R, C an S or the like & the difference slaps you in the face so hard it would be impossible to mix them up.

I’m a Helvetic fan, there are so many elements that present so much more pleasingly to the eye compared to Arial, although that doesn’t mean I don’t ever use Arial. They both have their uses… I guess ;)

The Typographic Desk Reference by Theodore Rosendorf

One of my favourite typography reference books is the The Typographic Desk Reference by Theodore Rosendorf, possibly more because of the way it looks rather than being anything more comprehensive than other manuals. The sections are presented clearly and attractively, I’m happy that I own it, and I’m just now remembering that either I have spoken about this book before, or I meant to and never got around to it…

Oh! and I didn’t use any references when playing this quiz :) Play now!

Sometimes I Think, Sometimes I Am

Sometimes I Think, Sometimes I Am, Sara Fanelli

I am sorely tempted to dismantle this book and hang the beautiful illustrations on my wall. I’d love a print of the front cover in the very least, on the look out now :)

blooming waste of money?

Cordial Bloom - Umbrella Type

Cordial Bloom VIA

When would I use this? Would I ever use it? Is it just the specimen image I like? These are the questions I’m asking myself before dropping €89,00 on this font…

I do like it a lot, it’s well made, I love the details and the specimen image shows off Cordial Bloom very nicely, however I do think I’ll leave this font as one that I simply like to look at. I can imagine using it as an accent element in a poster :) so maybe I need to start chasing clients based on ideas I want to try out?
