Another month of photo challenge, why not?! I enjoyed January and remembered every day (I’m still surprised!) so I’ll keep going through February.

January is proving to be a busy month and February is shaping up to be more so, why does this happen during times when you’d be happier staying in at home and not having to organize your time? I shouldn’t complain, it’s going to be an exciting next few months :)

I am making an effort to participate in a daily instagram in January, the first time I’ve actually followed through with this sort of photo challenge – it’s just so easy, phone camera & instagram with the daily topic set. I know there’s quite a few January and 365 instagram challenges floating around but the one I’m following is by Fat Mum Slim.

I’ll find a photo challenge for March maybe that I’ll use my real camera for. I didn’t make any new year resolutions but if I had they would certainly include enjoying my camera more daily.

I’ve decided to do a January photo challenge… well not so much of a challenge because it’s just with my iPhone & Instagram :) but for me there is challenge enough to remember to check each day’s theme :)

Today was Day 2, Breakfast, so presenting my delicious scrambled eggs by John with beautiful fresh chives from my garden…

I’d love to say made from eggs from our own chickens, but not yet :) I know you have have a few chickens in the smallest inner city house yard but I’m still leary of the responsibility of pets – just for the moment.

Tomorrow is ‘Something You Adore’…

If you want to play along there are a couple of different hash tags I’ve noticed people using for the same challenge, #photoaday and #janphotoaday – I’ll keep using both, the woman who started this suggested the second but because it’s spread without people knowing the source or full details of the challenge there seems to be more people using just the #photoaday tag.

Happy new year! 2012 is going to be a full one, full of wonderful happenings, and I hope to have the time I used to, to spend on this blog and also other enjoyable things that are not day job and commuting :)

Four reasons I love instagram this morning.

I woke up way too early for a Saturday morning, 4.15am! Ridiculous! Catching up on my instagram feed I realised that four of the photos I really liked for different reasons this morning were taken by people I actually know in real life. I wanted to share :)

As corny as it might sound, my Photojojo timecapsule brings me a lot of happiness every time it hits my inbox. I love to look at the selected photos from a year ago and think back to what else I was up to at the time, some times I remember clearly what I was thinking as I was taking a particular photo, and other times I can’t remember the photograph at all!

This latest capsule makes me homesick for that time in a nostalgic sort of way, we were both living in my just-about inner city apartment – cramped but cozy, and my biggest concern at the time was finishing these two crochet projects before Christmas. There were lots of weekends sitting in front of my laptop or the tv, and when finished them they became two of my favourite crochet fo’s.

This was also a time of playing scrabble, going often to the market, our first Christmas officially living together, the seemingly neverending rain, and then of course Qld floods (flood photos from my area only, we didn’t go travelling around sticky beaking).

Sunsets through trees anyway… with a healthy dose of sun flares :) These are the sort of photos I do not make my desktop wallpaper, impulsive thoughts of running away tend to occur sometime around the Wednesday morning mark.

While we were camping the other week I found myself stomping through the brush after a camera shy lizard and I’m so glad I forgot about chasing the wildlife for long enough to take some photos of these scotch thistles. I always feel happy when I manage photos I like of bees, and I was lucky enough to spot a thistle right at the moment it was setting free it’s seeds, growing up we called them Grandfather Christmases…

Wow. I don’t have the discipline to do something like this… maybe it takes a couple of goes to get into the rhythm of taking a self portrait every day, then once you start it’s just something your do, part of your daily routine.

I wonder how this girl will feel in 45 years at the conclusion of this project, will there be something missing or will she feel triumphant at completing such a task?

I don’t know if it’s just me being emotional (it sounds nicer to me to call myself overly empathetic… I can’t stop myself crying when I see someone else cry, even characters on crappy tv shows), but this project had me tearing up.

The thought of people carefully packing their suitcase with personal objects that they cared about or used daily, only to spend the rest of their days institutionalised upsets me. They are essentially time capsules from people that were shut away and forgotten.

This is such a worthy project, I hope you’ll consider showing Jon your support.
