    Rosemary

I love gardening and one of my hopes is to have a big vegie garden that I can play in… and that we can get most of our food from of course :)

For starters we’ve planted some chilli plants and herbs in planters hanging over the balcony. Now there’s a wait until Spring to get everything else – I can’t wait!

Once they all settle in I’ll take some better photos.

  • absent…
  • Ishbel unblocked

I haven’t been online very much for quite a few weeks now, but I promise it’s due to a series of very good reasons! An unexpected trip, a new job, and a move all around the same time has left me with not much time for a lot of things. I found my camera usb cord yesterday morning!

We only had minor injuries, lots of sore muscles, and too many boxes from the move.

I have found some knitting time, abandoning Honeybee on the final stretch (just have the shoulder shaping on one side to complete…) instead starting & finishing Ishbel. It isn’t blocked, but it’s finished!

A side note, I am loving the redesign of Flickr! It and the update of the wordpress backend interface seriously makes me even more motivated to redesign Scatterpig, it’s definitely time to find someone more competent than me at coding blogs who can turn a psd into a template for me…

I’m happy to be back :)

  • loic
  • I’ve seen the work of Loic before, but I was reminded how much I love his style when following links from Marisa Kakoulas’s recent post on Needles and Sins about her new foot tattoo. You should really check out the Needles & Sins site if you’re looking for intelligent and interesting articles and information about tattoos, artists, conventions etc.

Back to Loic! His tattoos are unlike so much of the old school style work that is so popular at the moment, imaginative with beautiful colour and typography.

I’m wishing for more tattoos at the moment, but as I think I’ve mentioned before I’m still at the dreaming stage, this will last another year or two… but I imagine I’ll work on extending my sleeve :)

  • anzac biscuits
  • I suspect I wont be able to eat another one of these till next year. I had to eat the irregularly sized ones before giving them to John, it was a hard job but really, you simple can’t give someone a gift of misshapen biscuits…

The recipe I modified this year was very simple and produced a tasty and slightly chewy biscuit.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 cup plain flour
    • 1 cup rolled oats (not the fast cooking oats)
    • 1 cup shredded coconut
    • 1/2 cup brown sugar
    • 125g butter
    • 2.5 tbs golden syrup (nearly 3 tbs)
    • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

    Method:

    • Preheat oven to 160°C (320°F).
    • Sift the flour and mix well with the oats, coconut and brown sugar.
    • Melt the butter with the golden syrup and 2.5 tbs of water, and then add the teaspoon of bicarb. Stir so it goes all frothy, add straight away to the dry mixture and mix well.
    • Using a tablespoon of mixture per biscuit, roll into balls and then flatten with a fork.
    • Bake for 10min and leave them to cool slightly and harden before taking them off the tray (they will squish & fall apart if you don’t)
  • april fool
  • april fools day

It seemed the best time to try this photo trick out and post today, April Fools’ Day. I love reading about and seeing photographs and video of big clever pranks, but my favourite remains the old BBC Panorama Spaghetti Tree (& read about it here) story of 1957.

So simple, so silly, genius! A real sign of the times that so many people fell for this.

  • sweets
  • I decided that I would make some easter treats for both of our families this year rather than picking up commercial chocolate eggs, so I’ve been having some fun baking this week. I’ve whipped up a Pecan Slice, Pecan and Choc Chunk Biscuits, and some chocolate dipped Macaroons. Most of that went into the post today… some might have accidentally been left behind ;)

Tomorrow it’s time for Buttermilk Cookies and maybe some Oatmeal and Walnut Biscuits… something with Oatmeal in any case. I do feel like making some Brutti ma Buoni or some Mexican Wedding Cakes, but they can wait for a few weeks.

  • flexible recipes
  • This cake made it onto my ‘to bake’ list when I first saw it on design*sponge. It looks delicious, fast and flexible – flexibility in a recipe for me is always good.

I’m pretty much incapable of following a recipe without modifying it somehow so baking something that can withstand my meddling without turning into a brick is a fantastic find :-)

Having said that, I do love reading complicated and structured recipes, macarons especially… they make it look so easy I’ve already convinced myself I could make them with no trouble.

  • a little bit sex pistol
  • …or a little bit The Dark Knight?

God Save The Villain, my favourite Threadless shirt for ages.

I haven’t had much time in front of my laptop to post everything I’ve wanted to in the past couple of weeks, I really do wish the WordPress app for iPhone was more flexible and robust.

Never mind :-) I’m going to try to be less neglectful this week and see how I go – and fingers crossed for more knitting motivation.

  • a day early
  • advanced screening :)

I was lucky to receive from work a double pass to an advanced screening of Alice In Wonderland showing on Wednesday night. I’ve already mentioned multiple times how much I’m looking forward to seeing it, so I’ll leave this at that. (yay!)

  • kerplunk!
  • coffee splash by donchris!™ [superslow]

I was actually looking at another photograph of a coffee splash shown on the flickr blog, when I realised how much more I like this one. Such interesting colour and details, and this splash is so impressive! Great action shot :)

If I was thinking I would have taken a photo of the results from one of my favourite coffee cups 1/3 full of coffee smashed on the kitchen floor. These cups are about 8 seasons ago from the designer so I wont hold my breath finding a replacement, three is a disappointing number when it comes to cup sets.
