i need knitting deadlines

20120502-145238.jpg

I have so many projects that I’d really like to complete sooner rather than later that I think I need to up the ante and begin setting myself deadlines.

Except when it comes to work, I am a consummate procrastinator, and knitting is one of my most enjoyed activities! Imagine if I didn’t enjoy it as much as I do.

Soooo…. a deadline for my Hay! Cardigan… I’ll never know if I’m being unrealistic until I give it a go, so I am setting the 9th of May as my finish knitting deadline. Button, blocking, and general finishing deadline (this is an important one!) will be the 13th of May.

Hold me to it!

Brightly coloured knits? Yes please!

I’m loving the (commercial) photography of Benjamin Kanarek, especially this spread in VOGUE Portugal.

The colours I’m attracted to have changed over the past couple of months. I feel like warm colours, reds, oranges, pinks and yellows… not at all like my usual greens for knitting, and grey and black for wearing.

I’m so smitten by Malabrigo’s Archangel that I didn’t hesitate to snap up a single skein of it on sale. I really do try not to buy single skeins, there are too many of them floating around in my stash that are destined to be wasted on some half baked idea, so I’m making a special effort to select a special baby garment for this one… I can’t pretend that my Archangel interest didn’t start quite a while ago though, I’ve been thinking about the colourway since I saw this cardigan by the lovely Lauren :)

Madelinetosh, I love every variety I’ve tried, it’s just a really lovely yarn. I’ve been wanted to make myself Pomme de pin Cardigan for a little while now, it’s a perfect layering piece for our mild Winter plus with the decent amount of ease in the pattern combined with the lace it will fit me while heavily pregnant this year and next will just be a nice comfy baggy cardie.

The main reason why it didn’t jump straight on to my needles is that I felt very strongly about what colour it should be – Amber Trinket fits the bill perfectly, I’m so pleased with it! It’s gingery enough for me with some lovely little hints of warm orange and pink, this is going to be one beautiful cardigan.

I’m feeling very happy we are entering a rainy weekend, perfect knitting weather.

Lovebug Booties

I can’t remember the last time I put socks or booties on a baby so I was overly cautious pulling these on Travis, afraid of breaking one of his little toes (his parents laughed at me remembering a time when they were the same) so you can see I haven’t quite pulled them on properly and then worried about the heat I hurriedly took some phone pics – he was completely unconcerned by the way, not interested in them in the least, so I’m quite sure they’re not uncomfortable or anything :) By time Winter settles in the foot length will be perfect.

Don’t you just love bright colours on babies?! I have so many knitting projects for our own little one planned that I’ve had to start a personal list on my phone to keep track, there are too many projects in my Ravelry queue that I haven’t put in proper order, and too many projects I’m trying to keep in mind (my memory is becoming spotty!). I want to get the little Winter items made, Tigger is due towards the end of August (southern hemisphere) so not too many bulky and warm newborn knits will be needed, and then I can move on to the Spring and larger Summer clothes.

If I’m going to manage to get anything other than photos taken (but not yet edited or uploaded..) and dinner made today I’d best be off!

Dipped Infinity Scarf

Dipped Infinity Scarf

I’m so pleased with the results after blocking my Dipped Infinity Scarf. The stitches really opened up and the edge curling seems to be tamed for the time being – bring on Winter, I can’t wait to wear it!

It’s such a lovely pattern by Laura Chau, and the kit by Tanis Fiber Arts was a great choice for both colour and value. My fingers are itching to try some similar colour work techniques, I’ll create a test piece as a little baby top, I just have to find the perfect colours…

Today I am in the perfect mood for taking a trip in to see Kelly to say hi and look at some colour, and then home to spend the afternoon knitting and cooking – of course today I have a mountain of work to get through, so I’ll start now and hope for an early finish at least :)
