• barely domestic
  • It was a nice moment. I saw one of these prints by etsy seller WildLifePrints in etsy daily email, and after following the link this print The Cultured Cow really grabbed my attention (The Cultured Cow belongs on my wall).

It was only after checking the seller info I realised that I’d already discovered and admired the more serious work of the talented photographer Jeff Frieson. I love the light and shape in his photos, they’re really beautiful, and there are some similarities to his alter ego’s work :)

  • lost
  • Lost… it was such a love it or hate it tv series.

I loved it :) In so many ways it was a fantastic story and I am not disappointed in the ending at all – how else could it end?! Not one person I know likes Lost and I really think they’re all missing out, I enjoyed even the seasons that went off track and seemed pointless.

I’d love something cool, besides each season on blu-ray (currently only have them on dvd…) to memorialise the series and I’ve found two sites selling products that definitely fit the bill.

The auction of  small props used during the filming is currently being previewed, the website unfortunately gives no indication of the auction date – I would LOVE some Dharma Initiative beer cans or condiment bottles!

Also, artist Ty Mattson is selling silk screened prints with a perfect retro feel on the abc site, there are 3 or 4 prints I could definitely live with them hanging on my walls. My favourite is the print I’m showing here because the story line of Locke is one that I particularly liked, I really did love that character.

  • ron mueck at goma
  • We went to the Ron Mueck exhibition at GoMA last weekend… it was amazing! I’d definitely like to take another look at all of the sculptures when there are less people there and take some better photos.

I love those old ladies! The last guy in the boat makes me feel a bit odd, I don’t know if I feel bad for him for being so exposed and uncomfortable looking or if he’s creepy…  I want to think more about how each piece made me feel and create some stories about them and then go back and really take my time.

I found it difficult not to touch, I’m very tactile and I so wanted to see what they felt like. Sense prevailed and I kept my hands to myself :)

  • recovering lazyholic
  • Pretty much my first thoughts of the morning lately… as Autumn disappears into Winter and mornings get colder and darker all I want to do is stay in bed. I love being up early but the sun should be up too!

Love this series of photographs by Recovering Lazyholic (I love nonsense too :) ), found via swissmiss.

  • trauma
  • Laura Strasser creates some beautiful porcelain pieces, I love the Service Rice pieces and would be so happy to have them in my home, but of course the Trauma series caught my attention straight away :)

Each piece is hand crocheted, dipped in a porcelain sludge, and in the firing process the crocheted thread burns away leaving the delicate but sturdy porcelain casing behind.

Her With Love From China busts are just stunning, making me think of the busts by Ah Xian. I really do have a love of beautiful and imaginative porcelain, one day I’ll give making my own a try.

  • loic
  • I’ve seen the work of Loic before, but I was reminded how much I love his style when following links from Marisa Kakoulas’s recent post on Needles and Sins about her new foot tattoo. You should really check out the Needles & Sins site if you’re looking for intelligent and interesting articles and information about tattoos, artists, conventions etc.

Back to Loic! His tattoos are unlike so much of the old school style work that is so popular at the moment, imaginative with beautiful colour and typography.

I’m wishing for more tattoos at the moment, but as I think I’ve mentioned before I’m still at the dreaming stage, this will last another year or two… but I imagine I’ll work on extending my sleeve :)

  • tea towel collection?
  • Ever since I picked up a tea towel at the Masterpieces from Paris exhibition in January I’ve felt like starting a collection… I know, this could be sending me into pretty daggy territory, but it could be fun finding designs I like :) So many artists are seeing the fun in the tea towel as a canvas and taking the opportunity to get some fantastic designs out there.

ToDryFor.com is a collection of tea towels from various textile designers (via swissmiss), and as soon as I find it again I’ll share the link to some amazing japanese dish cloths.

  • black-eyed suzie
  • It was a while ago, but I’ve mentioned before how much I love these art dolls. In a nice little piece on the etsy blog this week, artist Sarah Faber of Black-eyed Suzie is shown talking about her art and a little bit into her inspiration.

I want one even more after seeing this :)

Blackeyedsuzie‘s style was influenced by her love for Gothic novels, Victorian and Elizabethan costumes and Dame Darcy’s comic Meat Cake. Her dolls are infused with the same elongated, wide-eyed traits as the characters of Edward Gorey {love Edward Gorey!} and Tim Burton. However, Sarah’s dolls have their own style: Victorian beauties with a dark side — card sharks, bourbon drinkers, albinos and vampires…

  • are you near sydney?
  • If you live near Sydney your pets have the opportunity to model for twoguineapigs, the studio operated by pet photographer Julianna Koh.

I wish for some feathered or four-legged friends… actually I wish for some feathered and four-legged friends! One day I’ll share a complete list, it’s long and to have that number of friends I would have to move to the country or to a suburb with lots of space, not an apartment near the city. At least then I could have my fantasy vegetable garden as well!

Definitely take a look at the twoguineapigs website and flickr account, I love to see beautiful, interesting, and thoughtful photography and art featuring animals :)

  • vitreous china
  • These bud vases are from the collection of American potter Frances Palmer. I enjoy the simplicity of her more mass produced pieces and the freedom to choose from her colour range for each piece, but :) if it wasn’t a colour day for me I’d be posting about how much I love the quirky asymmetrical details of her hand made pieces (take a look through all of her vases, they’re fantastic).

Today I feel like surrounding myself with colour. I feel like sewing, making things with my hands, I even feel like baking.
