Some amazing work by the Icelandic product designer Hafsteinn Júlíusson, I would love to see these pieces in person.
I want to be involved with society, ecology and try to avoid mainstream mass production, thats probably the reason why all my projects so far are one-off prototypes.
Luckily the Growing Jewellery range is now available for purchase in limited numbers. Care of these pieces is obviously very important, & includes daily gentle watering :)
- colour palette apps
-
Ever since picking up my iPhone 3GS I’ve been searching for the perfect apps. I went through quite a few before finding some that are truly useful, and easy and intuitive to use, including the new myPantone application. For playing around with colour palettes I had only a couple of requirements: the ability to select colours from a photo in my camera roll, the ability to edit those colours automatically selected or to select them myself, save & email the palettes, and see the colour value equivalents in cmyk, rbg, hex & the Pantone colour library estimated equivalent.
Some of the apps I’ve tried promised to do this, but seriously failed and it’s felt like a real waste of money. But by using a combination of myPantone & cliqcliq colors I’ve hit pay dirt… until the next new thing comes out of course haha
Now I’ll leave it up to you to decide whether this post was really about me wanting to share these apps, or the fact that I’ve only just worked out how to take screen captures from my phone ;)
Oh and it shouldn’t take too much guessing what photo the palette “John’s Green Milkshake” comes from, one of my favourites :)

Glass bowl with a dash of red
I saw this bowl in DJ’s this morning, it’s absolutely stunning! I was taking a couple of photos when a older sales lady approached me with such a snooty expression on her face to ask me what I was doing… It seriously took all my willpower to not take a quick photo of her! It was quite funny but unnecessarily rude, I wasn’t hurting the bowl by taking it’s photo :)

Manon
While I don’t expect to be able to wear this cardigan until next Autumn, I’m happy to being able to cross Manon off my wish list. I first queued it via Ravelry a couple of years ago and the pattern didn’t disappoint. With an interesting structure and little to no seaming (what little there was I crocheted, which suited the structure of this piece) it was a pleasure to knit.
Most people I have noticed have added closures to the front middle rib, usually interesting toggles, but for the time being I will leave it as is. I love the colour of the Malabrigo I used, the somewhat solid colour really adds interest to the texture of the peplum and sides, really quite beautiful.
I should be off to get ready for a big work bash this evening, I want to go back into the office first to wrap up any loose ends and finalise all of my file transfers and packing… but this is pretty much officially my last day in my current position. Exciting times ahead! Wish me luck :)

Sometimes I Think, Sometimes I Am, Sara Fanelli
I am sorely tempted to dismantle this book and hang the beautiful illustrations on my wall. I’d love a print of the front cover in the very least, on the look out now :)

Nesting set of eggs VIA
This is awesome! I have never seen this happen before, and I grew up in an area where it was the norm to have your own chickens… I’d love to have chickens :)
- dust storm!
-
I woke up to a beautifully clear Brisbane morning to read the news stories about the dust storms in Sydney, there’s some amazing photos on the ABC, but it was only a few hours before it started creeping up here.
These aren’t fantastic photos but they’ll give you an indication as to why I’m sitting at my desk at work hungry for lunch but not hungry enough to go outside again! It’s so windy and the taste of dirt in the air is disgusting. I can’t believe people in NSW were being advised to still send their children to school this morning.

New tripod!
I’m so excited about my new tripod, I haven’t had a chance to use it properly yet. Such a nice tripod deserves to hold a new camera, wouldn’t you agree? Please say yes ;) a little more encouragement is all I need to run out and buy myself a present.
