This is an interesting article about typeface revivals, briefly touching on some of the history of John Baskerville’s interpretration of William Caslon’s font Caslon (the result being of course Baskerville).

My current favourite font is Mrs Eaves, an interpretation of Baskerville, which I also like despite all the criticism it receives.

The name Mrs Eaves is a nod to John Baskerville’s wife Sarah Eaves who started off as Baskerville’s housekeeper, became his wife, & after his death completed the printing of his work.
