  • the barefoot contessa, blackeyedsuzie

I was feeling quite melancholy myself last night when I happened upon the barefoot contessa on etsy & just fell in love with the style & detail of this art doll, the face is just perfect. I love the little stories that blackeyedsuzie gives each of her creations:

The Barefoot Contessa is from a very wealthy family, but due to some unmentionable (and unjust!) scandals must now dance for her dinner. She is famous for her mastery of the fan dance, her different-coloured eyes and for never wearing shoes. Her only friend is the tiny bird, Minou, who lives in her hair. (The Contessa knows that ‘minou’ is a French term of endearment for a cat, but she is a melancholy ironist.)

We went to the exhibition of contemporay Chinese artwork over the weekend but I didn’t take a digital camera… what a pain!! My phone camera is fairly poor & while John’s is as good as my regular camera, it has an automatic flash so no go.

I did take some film photos which will be developed this week, I’ll post those along with a couple of other images I picked up. The works that stand out in my head are the Metaphysica series by Ah Xian, & most of the works by Zhang Xiaogang which were so beautiful and haunting.

    More later :)
