wheel of boredom

wheel

The crappy local Sunday newspaper dubbed the ferris wheel at Southbank (officially The Wheel of Brisbane) The Wheel of Boredom after reports of poor ticket sales. I do feel a bit bad calling it that as I’ve never been on it & I think it looks great from a distance, especially at night :)  But the name has stuck for me & so will for ever be known as The Wheel of Boredom.

I took a long exposure shot of it the other night from the ferry, there was too much light at the dock so the results wont be great – but fingers crossed because it really does look beautiful all lit up. Yes, I am one of those people who ooohs & aaahs at fireworks ;)

knitted throw blankets

In the approach to winter I’ve been thinking about finally knitting a blanket. I’m in two minds about what style I’m after though – I’m torn between bright and cheerful or subtle and stylish… The tacky in me is always at war with the well styled when it comes to home decoration & the result is usually a hybrid (think the Hemlock Ring in bright green).

1. Hemlock Ring Blanket, modification of vintage doily pattern, Jarrod Flood (brooklyntweed)
2. Elongated Cable, Adrienne Rogers
3. Rainbow Throw, Donna Yacino for Berocco (ravel it)

I will choose a nice merino for the Hemlock Ring, a cashmere blend for a style similar to the Elongated Cable (I’ll just make my own version of this) & something in a cotton blend for the Rainbow Throw.

lady owl

If I was going to start collecting ceramics, I would start with this piece by Robin Van Valkenburgh.

poladroid

I’m sure everyone by now has seen the results of or tried out poladroid. I played around with it last year & saved these images but only uploaded one other to flickr.

I came across these & was reminded of one of the reasons I started to want a Holga so much. The interesting & different effects you can achieve by experimenting with a toy camera – without any guarantees you can ever replicate the results.

I actually love this bee picture un-poladroided :) I’ve tried often to catch bees in flight & I think this is the best result I’ve ever managed to get. I particularly like that he isn’t smack in the middle of the picture, it’s like a little scene in which a bee happens to be flying into the rose just at that moment.
